Description
The Buttonwood, also known as the Damas Tree, is a small to medium-sized evergreen tree that belongs to the Combretaceae family. It is native to coastal areas of the Americas, including the southern United States, the Caribbean, and parts of South America. The tree can grow up to 4 meters in height, but it is usually smaller, reaching only 1 meter in height. The Buttonwood has a dense, rounded crown with dark green, glossy leaves that are oval-shaped and about 5 cm long. The leaves are arranged alternately on the branches and have a leathery texture. The tree produces small, inconspicuous flowers that are greenish-yellow in color and bloom in the spring and summer. The fruit of the Buttonwood is a small, woody capsule that contains a single seed. The Buttonwood is a hardy tree that can tolerate a wide range of soil types, including sandy and salty soils. It is often used in landscaping and as a street tree due to its tolerance of urban conditions.
